Hidden away at Disneyland you can find the home of Disneyland’s own leprechaun. If you grew up with Disney’s Little Golden Books, you may have read the story (published in 1955) of the “Little Man In Disneyland.”
This story introduces the character of Patrick Begorra, Disneyland’s resident leprechaun. He’s living in an Anaheim orange tree when Mickey and friends turn up to tell him that his tree is going to be moved to make way for a wonderful place called Disneyland. Patrick agrees to let them build the park if he can still live there. He moves into a secret little house hidden somewhere in the park.
As part of Disneyland’s Diamond Celebration, visitors to Disneyland can now look for Patrick’s little house somewhere in the park (Hint: look in Adventureland). We love how the doormat has his initials on it and you can see the tiny footprints leading up to the door.
You can also find a copy of the Little Man of Disneyland on Amazon. Reading it to your kids before your next park visit is a fun way to build excitement and it is a cute story with some great Disney History. (Note: the illustrations are done by Disney Studio artists).
