Oogie Boogie Bash at Disneyland-What You Need to Know
By Jennifer Stuart
Oogie Boogie Bash is a new Halloween Party offering at the Disneyland Resort for 2019.  We take a look at what you can expect from this new and exciting party, how it is different from previous years and our insider tips from our visit.
We visited the Oogie Boogie Bash on Sept 22, 2019 and the information and impressions are based on our experiences.

What is the Oogie Boogie Bash?

The Oogie Boogie Bash is a hard ticketed event that is offered on select nights in September and October at the Disneyland Resort in Disney California Adventure.  This is a new party for the 2019 Halloween season, replacing Mickey's Halloween Party in Disneyland.

  • EVENT DETAILS
  • Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party at Disney California Adventure Park
  • Select nights September 17 through October 31, 2019
  • Party 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM
  • Park mix-in begins at 2:00 PM on Sundays as well as October 29 and 31, 2019
  • Park mix-in begins at 3:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Tickets start at $110 per person--NOTE: Party dates are now all sold out

What can we do at the party?

Frightfully Fun Parade
There are lots of offerings at the Oogie Boogie Bash this year. So many things to do that we didn't even have time to do half of the things that we wanted to do.
Event Highlights Include:
  • Villainous
This is a World of Colour style show that is exclusive to the Oogie Boogie Bash.  You can follow the story of Shelley Marie and her encounters with some notorious Disney villains.  Note that there are two showings of Villainous per party night.
  • Villains Grove                                                                                                   Redwood Creek Challenge Trail is changed into a hauntingly beautiful grove of colour, sound, light and shadow. This is a sound and light show walk through with different areas inspired by Disney villains (This is really beautiful but may not be interesting for kids).
  • Immersive Treat Trails
Trick or treat through trails featuring themed décor and the villains themselves. These are not meet and greets but the characters are on raised platforms and interact with the crowds as you pass. You also get to collect treats from several treat stands on each path.
  • DescenDance
A dance party with the Isle of the Lost dance crew. Dance to hit songs from Disney’s Descendants films. This dance party is located in the backlot area of Hollywood land (near Monsters Inc.).
  • Frightfully Fun Parade
A Parade that starts at Pixar Pier, near Paradise Gardens, and winds through the usual parade route to end near the Hyperion Theatre. The Parade starts with the ride of the Headless  Horseman and then has floats that are themed after different villains and of course a Haunted Mansion and a Nightmare Before Christmas float. Note that there is only one parade per party night. Parade starts at 8:10pm and The Headless Horseman rides about 10 mins before the start of the parade.
  • Mickey’s Trick & Treat
This is a family friendly live show located at the Disney Theatre in Hollywood Land hosted by Mickey and friends.  Treats are handed out at the end of the show (show runs five times a night).
  • Character Encounters
Meet and greet opportunities are available with Mickey and friends               in Halloween costumes but also with  classic and rare Disney
characters, such as the Blue Fairy and Pinocchio, or Chip and Dale as              Rescue Rangers.  If you really want to meet villains they will be set                   up near the wheel for Grizzly River Run.

What about costumes?

You certainly don't have to wear a costume to the Oogie Boogie Bash but many people will do so as it is the only opportunity adults have to wear costumes at Disneyland Resort. Costumes can range from bought costumes, home-made costumes to elaborate costumes that look shockingly professional.  You will also see many guests who aren't in full costume but are wearing a Halloween or Disney themed shirt or accessories.  If you are planning to wear a costume, make sure to read Disneyland's Costume guidelines to ensure that your costumes comply with entry rules. Can you explain the tickets?

Oogie Boogie Bash is a hard ticket event, which means that you need a separate ticket rather than a park pass to attend the party. Party ticket holders are allowed to enter California Adventure several hours in advance of the party (mix-in) start time. This gives party goers time in the park in advance of the party in order to enjoy rides or eat or just enjoy the park before the party starts.  When the party officially starts regular park day guests will start to be ushered out by Cast Members.
  • Tickets can be purchased online or by calling (714) 781-4636 until the day before the event, or at any Disneyland Resort ticket booth until the day of the event—subject to availability. UPDATE - Oogie Boogie Bash is currently sold out for all remaining Party nights for 2019.

What to do when you arrive

Check in to get wristbands inside main gates
When you arrive at the gates to California Adventure, after clearing security bag check, you will be asked to provide your Oogie Boogie Bash ticket (either a print out or a digital ticket in the app).  You will then be given a paper party ticket that is scanned and your picture is taken (remember these tickets are non-transferable). After you enter the park you will be directed to grab a wristband, a party map and a trick or treat bag. You are then free to enjoy the party.
