The first book is fun for even the smallest Haunted Mansions fans. This picture book takes the classic Haunted Mansion song "Grim Grinning Ghosts" and turns it into a picture book. It also includes a CD of the song to play along with the book or on its own. As a Haunted Mansion fan this was the first book I bought myself. The cover art implies a connection to the Disneyland Version of the ride, but the pictures inside are cartoon scenes that could be from either the Disneyland or the Disney World versions of the ride.
New from Disney Press are a series of chapter books aimed at the tween market. These are easy reading fun for anyone who is a Haunted Mansion lover. There are plenty of references to make fans happy, for real Haunted Mansion fans these are easy to spot and add some extra fun to the stories.
There are currently 4 books in this series. All the books are narrated by the Haunted Mansion Librarian, Amicus Arcane and are meant to be books that are all pulled from the shelves of the Haunted Mansion library. The first volume of Tales from the Haunted Mansion is the Fearsome Foursome. It involves a group of middle school kids who are into scary stories and wind up finding their own horror stories in the Haunted Mansion. It certainly doesn't have a happy ending but for a middle schooler that likes spooky and creepy stories they wouldn't find it too scary. As a kid I would have loved them. As an adult who really loves to read teen and tween fiction as my guilty pleasure, they weren't scary at all and I just enjoyed all the details and an easy read.
Other titles in this series ares similar easy reads and lots of spooky fun. Certainly they could be considered an intro level spooky book for the tween market.
Good news for Canadian Haunted Mansion fans. These books are also available in Canada through Amazon.ca
