Ten Best Christmas Shows on Disney Plus

If you are wondering what to watch on Disney Plus this holiday season, you will have plenty of shows to choose from. We have rounded up our favourites into this top ten list. See which ones are already on your list and which ones are going to become new favourites.

Here are our top ten picks in no particular order.

Mickey's Christmas Carol

This all time Christmas classic gets a Mickey and friend's makeover. Mickey plays the role of Bob Cratchit while the role of Ebenezer Scrooge is played by Scrooge McDuck of course. A great way to introduce kids to this classic Christmas story. This one is a must watch for us every year - I have loved the Ghost of Christmas Past since I was a kid.

The Small One

This 1978 animated short is animated much in the style of The Jungle Book or the Sword in the Stone. A young boy (who looks remarkably like Mowgli) is tasked by his father to sell their old but beloved donkey named Small One. He is met with unkindness and derision and he is about to give up when he meets a man named Joseph who needs a donkey for his wife. As a bonus, listen for the cameo from veteran Disney voice actor Thurl Ravenscroft.

Lego Star Wars Holiday Special

New this year, this one is for Star Wars fans. There are LOTS of easter eggs hidden in this one for the die hard Star Wars fans but kids who enjoy all the Lego Star Wars shows will have fun with this as well. As a long-time Star Wars fan I really appreciated this special and the nods to the original Star Wars Holiday TV Special from 1978.

Pluto's Christmas Tree

An animated classic, this short Christmas treat showcases Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale. This little piece of Christmas fun is perfect for families and those who love a good Mickey cartoon.

Decorating Disney Holiday Magic

For those of you who love a little behind the scenes Disney Parks magic, you will love Decorating Disney Holiday Magic. This special, hosted by Whoopi Goldberg, shows the behind the scenes action as the cast members transform Disneyland and Magic Kingdom into a holiday wonderland overnight.

Noelle

Made exclusively for Disney Plus, this movie premiered in 2019. Starring Anna Kendrick as Noelle, the daughter of Kris Kringle who really wants to do something important like her brother who is set to take over from her father as Santa. When things don't go as planned it is up to Noelle to get things back on track and save Christmas.

Prep and Landing

In this fun, animated special, two elves who work on the prep team to ready each house for for Santa's visit run into some unexpected challenges that threaten Christmas. Can these two new partners work together to save Christmas? Definitely one that kids will enjoy.

Santa Clause

The original that spawned a series, this movie from 1994 features Tim Allen who finds himself taking over the reins of Santa's sleigh and activating the Santa Clause. A family classic that you probably grew up with. Bonus - If you like Santa Clause - you can also find Santa Clause 2 and 3 also on Disney Plus.

Home Alone

This is a Christmas classic for so many of us! The legendary antics of Kevin McCallister as he has to single handedly hold off burglars when he is accidentally left home alone. Bonus: Home Alone 2 and 3 are also on Disney Plus (personal opinion I would stop at 2).

Miracle on 34th Street

This is a true Christmas classic. One of our must watch holiday favourites, I prefer the original 1947 version with the amazing Maureen O'Hara in the role of Doris Walker. If you prefer the modern remake form 1994 with the adorable Mara Wilson as the child who befriends Kris Kringle, the Macy's Santa, it is also available on Disney Plus. If you haven't seen it yet, -- I absolutely LOVE the courtroom scene with the mail. -- no spoilers.

Is it a Christmas Movie?

An enduring debates is - is Nightmare Before Christmas a Christmas movie or a Halloween movie. I've noticed that Disney has placed it both in it's special Halloween section and the Christmas section on Disney Plus. So we leave the decision up to you. If you feel like it is a Christmas movie it is our special bonus item on the list.
